Pre and Post-Event Massage
Are you currently training for a special event or recently finished one?
As part of the process of both preparing for a specific sporting event and recovery after it, sports massage can play a key part in helping you to achieve the best possible success at the event, and also increase the effectiveness and recovery time from such an event.
Pre-event massage
A pre-event massage is a short, specific treatment given before a sports event, ideally between 30 minutes and 48 hours beforehand, though it can longer. A pre-event sports massage does not replace your warm up, but complements it.
It focusses on the specific muscles and joints that will be primarily uesd in the event you are undertaking, not the whole body. Its aims is to work up those key muscles, increase the supply of blood and oxygen to them, help muscles to relax enough so there is the full range of joint movement required, and support your final preparations for the event, by allowing you to relax and focus on being successful.

Post-event massage
Recovery is the primary purpose of post-event sports massage. You'll tend to push yourself harder during an event than while training. A massage afterward is vital to assist a speedy, as pain-free, recovery as possible.
The aim of this massage is to relax your muscle tone, improve your recovery circulation, flush toxins from the body and restore your flexibility. This allows for a quicker recovery and return to training without the usual stiffness and soreness. It can be undertaken immediately after the event, or up to a day or two after, to gain the most benefit.

Kinesiology Taping
As part of the preparation for events, general support during training, and as part of an injury recovery programme, I now offer kineisology taping. This taping method can be beneficial in helping with common conditons such as mild muscle strains, plantar fasciitis, ITB symdrome, knee collateral problems, and many more issues. By giving targeted support, the kinesiology tape can provide specific pain relief, aid muscle and ligament control, enhance the response of muscles and give you the confidence to face the challenge of training for, and partciapting in, the events you enjoy.
Kinesiology taping can also help reduce the swelling caused by bruising and sprains, by supporting the lymphatic system drain excess fluids.
Taping is ideally best undertaken separately from a massage treatment as the tape is less sticky if applied to skin that has oil/lotion on it. This might be via a short, specific appointment, or as part of pre-event preparation. It typically remains effective for up to 5-7 days per application.
